What is Serving U?

Serving U is a first-class corporate experience-based teambuilding course conducted at the North Texas Food Bank’s newly renovated distribution facility. The program is designed to help key executive and departmental personnel sharpen their communication and teamwork skills – while serving a larger purpose.

Who is Serving U for?

You and your team.

Specifically, what are the teambuilding activities?

Teams of five to 40 people work together, communicate, plan, solve logistical problems and build communication skills. Unlike other corporate workshops, Serving U also unites your people around a tangible result: While honing your teamwork skills, you’ll also be helping to feed thousands of people across North Texas.  Activities include:

  1. Creating food box content specifications based on nutritional requirements and available food inventory;

  2. Designing and implementing efficient staging, assembly, and storage processes;

  3. Determining process staffing and management;

  4. Designing and implementing performance measures and effective team communications systems;

  5. Interacting with Food Bank warehouse operations personnel in real time to obtain necessary food and packaging resources;

  6. Setting and meeting team performance goals.

Who is Serving U designed to benefit?

Serving U is designed for corporations and businesses of all sizes, as well as associations, faith and educational groups.  Any group seeking a first-class experience that will build teamwork and collaboration among board, executive, management and employee teams will benefit from Serving U.

What sets Serving U apart from other teambuilding programs?

Key competitive differentiators are the unique experience, the quality of the meeting facility, and the opportunity to see your training activity result in a philanthropic outcome. Participants conclude the day knowing their efforts benefited the community in a significant way, which will enhance their value as an employee. Every employer wants employees who care about the wider community, who embrace altruism, gratitude and service. That experience is embedded into the very fabric of the day’s exercises.

Is Serving U customizable?

Absolutely! Below is a link to the sample agenda that is very adaptable. We will work closely with you to find the best formula for your group and make it happen.

What facilitators are available for this program?

If requested, experienced professional facilitators can lead the daylong Serving U experience. The Food Bank has five highly-skilled independent facilitators available to contract with your team. They can customize their programs to fit individual needs and offer a variable fee schedule for their services. Click here to read their biographies and brief descriptions of their services. You may also bring your own facilitator or lead the group yourself. Some companies find that this fits their needs better. The third option you may choose is to have a trained North Texas Food Bank staff member lead you through the program. The program has been developed by a professional facilitator but is a curriculum led by our staff.

What is the cost of the program? Is the cost tax-deductible?

Yes, a portion of the program's cost is tax-deductible. There is a suggested donation of $5,000 for a full day and $4,000 for a half day for businesses/corporations. This includes a professional facilitator. There is a suggested donation of $3,000 for a full day and $2,000 for a half day for non-profits and education entities. A North Texas Food Bank staff member will lead non-profit and education groups and a professional facilitator will cost an additional $1,500. As a result of staff time, facility use and other Food Bank resources, Serving U expenses are incurred. The cost of lunch per person has a market value of $10.

What size group can we bring? When is Serving U offered?

Due to safety and operational reasons, we host groups of up to 55 people. We've found that the higher number of people can diminish the quality of the Serving U experience. Serving U is offered year-round, Monday through Friday and on selected Saturdays.

We’d like to bring our corporate team from out of town. Is that feasible?

Absolutely! We can work with you on travel arrangements if you wish. Several Dallas-area hotels offer discounted rates to Serving U groups. We’ll do whatever we can to ensure your group a successful experience.
